Tree Board grateful for civic support

| August 5, 2012 2:31 PM

Letter to the Editor,

The Tree Board would like to take this opportunity to thank all those individuals and groups who assisted us in planting some 60 trees at our new park on the Kootenai River.

The City was able to purchase these trees thanks to a $5,600 grant from the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.  Our trees were purchased from Blossom Boutique and a special thank you goes to Rhea for all her help.

The City held a kick-off planting on June 13 with members of City Council, EPA, CDM Smith, Environmental Restoration and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers helping to plant 10 lindens around the boat trailer parking area.

Other groups who assisted in June and July include the Avid Gardeners, Society of American Foresters, Frank Votapka’s Boy Scout Troop and David Thompson Search and Rescue.

A special thank-you to Tony Berget, Steve Logan, and Robert Carlson for helping us with digging tree holes.

Other individuals assisting us were Mark Kreuz, Lee Brundin, Josiah Schertel, Lance Ehmann, Jack Ehmann, Gideon Schertel and Jim May.

We hope to complete planting the park next year.

Perhaps you would be interested in helping us complete this project by purchasing a tree in memory of a loved one.

If you would be interested, please contact us at 293-8419 for more information.
