Blind hubris, overwhelming Republican arrogance to blame, reader says

| August 5, 2012 2:30 PM

Letter to the Editor,

Ever since the economy collapsed, I’ve noticed an unending rant by the Republicans and Tea Party to try and convince themselves and everyone else that all the problems of our country are the Democrats’ fault and not their own incompetent, failed policies of deregulation.

Why do we have brakes on cars?

How fast would you drive a car with no brakes?

The reason we have brakes on cars is so we can drive fast. The same with regulations. The removal of the Glass-Steagall banking control act of 1933 can be traced directly to the banking system train wreck of our economy of 2008.

Blind hubris, overwhelming arrogance with the philosophy of greed is good brought down from the mountain by their wise men.

For a moment, let’s talk about Republican and Tea Party wise men.

Richard Nixon taught the Republican party the art of “dirty tricks,” and anything legal or illegal to gain power. The first president to resign in disgrace.

Next Ronald Reagan, as governor of California, his tax reform caused many small farmers to sell part or all of their land to corporations just to pay their taxes.

This man fed names to the FBI during one of our nation’s most disgraceful episodes, the McCarthy era.  Reagan is the first president to spend twice the money of all the presidents before him, starting the trillion dollar debts.

During the height of the Soviet Union’s communism, only 12 percent of its population belonged to the communist party with a butchering dictator maintaining absolute rule.

With the Tea Party’s attitude of “our way or no way,” let’s privatize our democracy, so they can pursue the important work of social engineering, their illusion of perfectionism.

Everyone is thinking, feeling and acting like them.

All they need is a good corporate hatchet man to rid them of unions so everyone works in sweat shops at minimum wage.

That’s socialism and fascism!

Sinclair Lewis once wrote “When fascism comes to this country it will be wrapped in a flag carrying a cross.”
