Troy couple injured in one-car accident on slippery Route 2

Two Troy residents were injured the morning of Nov. 17  as their sub-compact car slid off the roadway during snow-slickened conditions, went down an embankment and came to rest on the BNSF railway access.

The one-vehicle accident occurred as Richard Simpson, 27, of Troy was eastbound on U.S. Route 2 just west of Libby when he lost control of the 2005 Dodge Neon and crossed the oncoming traffic lane, left the roadway and went down a 40-foot steep embankment coming to rest on the north side of the highway, just 20-feet from the Burlington Northern Sante Fe railroad tracks.

Injured in the accident, which occurred at the 29.8 mile-marker, was Simpson and 22-year-old Stacie Simpson, who were taken by ambulance for their injuries.

In addition, a third person, 1-year-old Hunter Simpson, was properly restrained in a child’s safety seat and was not injured. Seatbelts were worn by all passengers.

Officer, Sgt. Duane Bowers cited weather conditions as a major contributing factor to this crash.
