Thanksgiving: Times have changed

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yes, a time to be thankful for all that we have.

Since the Pilgrims held their first Thanksgiving we have always had much to be thankful for. Over the years our country has suffered many hardships (recessions/depressions) and yet, being a resilient people we have always survived, and even became more prosperous. However, we must remember that during those difficult times many suffered grievously. And today many are suffering the loss of jobs and home.

There is, however, a big difference between hardships of the past and those of today. Our country was founded by people helping one another. Today there is more of a ‘mine is mine’ attitude and a reluctance to help others.

History shows that there have always been economic cycles and today we are in the ‘middle’ of a devastating cycle. The ‘middle’ because it appears there is more to come. Robert Wiedemer New York Times best-selling author and internationally respected economist says “America could fall into a situation with 50 percent unemployment, a 90 percent stock market plummet, and a second housing collapse.”

And Sir Mervyn King, governor of the Bank of England, said “This is the most serious financial crisis we’ve seen, at least since the 1930s, if not ever.” To survive, and restore our nation to greatness, we must once again help others when needed. The experts recommend a three year food supply plus silver/gold, and dollars. We must also get rid of the “politically correct” B.S. plus reduce, or get rid of, the ever increasing welfare state.

Next year we must elect State Officials that will work to create Montana jobs and reduce government waste. It is imperative that we elect those willing to take the heat, bite the bullet, and do what is ‘right’ to make Montana “The Last Best Place”.
