Schauers will celebrate 50 years
Were married on Nov. 22, 1961
The children of Rocky and Kenni Ann Schauer announce their parent’s 50th wedding anniversary.
Rocky and Kenni Ann were married at Trinity Lutheran Church on Nov. 22, 1961, in Great Falls, Mont. Kenni Ann recalls the day.
“It was a lovely windy November day. Rocky was there to pick me up two hours early! The best part of the day came when we were married.”
The couple met in Simms, Mont., where both were attending Simms High School. Rocky, the youngest of seven children, grew up in Simms, and Kenni Ann, an only child, moved to Montana when her father was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base. They settled in Vaughn, Mont.
Rocky and Kenni Ann were engaged in the spring of 1961. Rocky was away at college and Kenni Ann was finishing high school, but letters were frequent, and they found they shared common goals and a sense of being together.
“Two horses pulling the wagons of life are easier than one,” Rocky said. “Getting engaged wasn’t logical, but it was what we wanted to do.”
While young college students attending Eastern Montana State College, Rocky and Kenni Ann had their first two children, Anna and Alice. They graduated with teaching degrees, and moved to Libby to teach in 1969. Their last child, Kenneth, was born in 1974.
Together, Rocky and Kenni Ann taught for 56 years in the Libby School District. They received masters degrees in education from Gonzaga University. Both taught at Asa Wood and the Junior High/Middle School; Kenni Ann also taught at Lincoln and at Central Elementary Schools. Rocky retired in1995 and Kenni Ann retired in 1999.
Rocky and Kenni Ann are members of St. John Lutheran Church. They stay busy on their angus farm, raising and selling registered cattle.
Kenni Ann is active in Kootenai Pets for Life, and Rocky is head of the Lincoln County Weed Board.
In addition to their three children —Anna Schauer and husband Mike Petrofes of Albuquerque, N.M.; Alice Luehr and husband Gary of Helena, Mont.; and Kenneth and wife Shiloh of Colorado Springs, Colo. – they have five grandchildren – Cassandra, Caitlin, Brian, Anne Marie and Lydia.
