Troy incumbents lose races
Arts, Denton win seats on Council
After voting was closed Tuesday at 8 p.m. on Election Day, the ballot count confirmed Troy City Council Candidates Joe Arts and Crystal Denton as the new City Council members elect.
“I am so relieved,” Arts said late Tuesday night after the election results were announced.
Incumbents Gary Rose lost the election by just six votes and John Harold Clogston trailed by 18 votes to Denton.
“This is awesome,” Denton said. “I still can’t believe I won.”
Arts and Denton were not together during the election. However, both candidates mentioned they continued to refresh the election Web page all evening to keep the numbers current.
Chief Bob McLeod was among some of the individuals awaiting the results with Arts.
Arts has great hope for Troy in returning it to the way it used to be, a friendly place.
Mayor Don Banning was asked how he felt about the results from the election.
“I am very happy,” Banning said. “In town I’ve been getting a lot of thumbs-up.”
“People seem really happy.”
Arts and Denton emphasized the work they will do to benefit Troy.
“We want what’s best for the city of Troy,” Arts said. “The acting City Clerk will become the City Clerk.”
