The race for Libby School District

Board is heating up with five candidates filing for two seats.

Lori Benson, Amy Fantozzi, Ruby Kahnt,

Tony Rebo and Matt Skranak have filed to run in the election.

Rebo is the only incumbent seeking

re-election for the two three-year terms. Paula Darko-Hensler’s

spot also expires this year, but she did not file for

re-election.

In the Troy School District, the

election seems a bit quieter with only two candidates filing for

two seats on the board.

John Konzen has filed for the

elementary spot currently held by Steve Garrett. Konzen is a former

Lincoln County Commissioner.

Incumbent Keith Haggerty has filed for

re-election in the high school spot.

The deadline for candidates to file was

March 24. Candidates can still run as write-in candidates in the

May 3 election.

Also on the ballot in the Libby School

District is a $200,000 mill levy.

Dwindling enrollment has contributed to

an estimated $450,000 shortfall in the district’s budget. If

approved, the board hopes that the levy will make up some of

that.

Voters earlier this year rejected a $12

million bond issue, which would have helped the district remodel

schools as it prepares to close Asa Wood elementary.
