Betty J. Overby

| July 14, 2011 11:15 AM

Betty

J. Overby passed away June 25, 2011 due to complications from COPD.

She had been lovingly cared for by the staff at Libby Care Center

for the last 3 years. She was born in Missoula on July 11, 1929 and

raised mostly in the Lupfer and Kalispell areas.

She

married Bernie Enger in 1947. They traveled around the Northwest

following construction on dams. They settled in the Libby area in

1967 for work on Libby Dam first at Whispering Pines, then moving

to Libby when they flooded the valley. Betty and Bernie divorced,

in 1972. She married Albin “Papa” Overby in 1976.

She

enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and bowling with the girls. She

especially enjoyed tending to her flowers and garden. The love of

which she inherited from her mother and passed on to her daughter.

More than anything in life she adored her grandchildren and

spending time with them, and the feeling was mutual. She will be

sorely missed.

She

was preceded in death by husband Albin, parents Lena J. and Gilbert

E. Burk, brothers Al, Ted, Bill, Jim, infant twin Robert, and

sister Clara Graves.

She is

survived by daughter and cherished son-in-law Julie and Douglas

Drake; grandchildren Chelsea Drake, Emily and husband James Magone

of Phoenix, Christopher and wife Wendy of Helena and their children

Kyleigh and Tommy. Stepsons Darrell Overby and wife Lettie of

Randle Washington, Bernt Overby and wife Wendy of Graham,

Washington, and Darwin Overby; Sister and brother-in-law Mona and

Harvey Hanson of Whitefish, brother Gib Burk of Olney,

sisters-in-law Norma Burk of Olney, Vera Burk of Whitefish, and

Karen Burk of Helena, numerous nieces and nephews and ex-husband

and friend Bernie Enger.

At

Betty’s request there will be no service. There will be a get

together and “remembering” party at a later date. Anyone who knew

her knows how much she loved her flowers, especially geraniums and

begonias, so just plant a flower in her memory and she will be

happy.  Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home

in Libby.
