Smith appointed to POST Council

Libby Chief of Police Jim Smith was

recently appointed to the Public Safety Officer Standards and

Training Council, Gov. Brian Schweitzer’s office announced.

Smith holds an advanced public safety

officer certificate from the POST Council.

The group is responsible for

establishing basic and advanced qualification and training

standards for employment of Montana’s public safety officers,

conducts and approves training, provides for officer certification

and recertification and is responsible for the suspension or

revocation of certification of officers.

Others appointments announced last week

include public member Winnie Ore of Helena, who will serve as

chair; officer John Schaffer of Great Falls; tribal representative

Lewis Matthews of Wolf Point; county attorney Georgette Hogan

Boggio of Hardin; and Montana Board of Crime Control representative

Mike Anderson of Helena.

In all, 13 members serve on the POST

Council.
