Hunter education course coming to Libby

A hunter education course is scheduled

to run Feb. 21-28 in Libby, officials announced this week.

Registration for the free course is

coming up on Tuesday, Feb. 15 from 7-9 p.m., at the Libby Middle

School library.

Anyone under age 18 must have a parent

or guardian present to register. Youth must be at least age 11 to

be certified.

Any Montana youth ages 12-17 who

complete hunter education become eligible to receive their first

hunting license free.

There is no maximum age limit and

anyone is welcome to take the course.

Participants must attend all class

sessions and pass a final exam to become certified.

The class schedule will run from 7-9

p.m., on Feb. 21-25 at the middle school with a field course from 8

a.m.-1 p.m., on Feb. 26 and the final exam from 7-9 p.m., on Feb.

To purchase a Montana hunting license,

anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985 must show a certificate of

completing a hunter education course.

The law went into effect in 2003.

Anyone born before 1985 is not required to take the course.

The program follows standards

established by the International Hunter Education Association. As

such, the certificate is recognized and honored in all of North

America.
