Libby High School junior Louis Cielak will represent his school in the two-day Class A State Golf Meet at Laurel.

More than 500 miles from Libby, the Laurel Golf Course has hosted state in the past.

“It’s a good golf course. The wind can obviously cause some problems,” LHS coach Dann Rohrer said. “I remember a couple of holes where the wind could have a pretty big effect on the way the game’s played. But the weather looks very good so we could be in for a good week of golf.”

Cielak left Wednesday with plans to participate in a practice round on Thursday. The meet begins Friday and concludes Saturday.

“I wish Louis the best … he’s been playing good golf,” Rohrer said.

The Loggers did not qualify for state as a team. Cielak advanced individually after a ninth-place finish at divisionals.

In other sports action this weekend, the Troy High School football team (1-2, 2-2) will host a game on Friday night against nonconference foe, Superior. Kickoff in Troy is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Libby’s football team (0-1, 2-3) hits the road for the fourth straight week. The Loggers will play on Friday at Whitefish.

In volleyball, Libby (1-2, 1-3) plays host to Bonners Ferry, Idaho on Friday. The Lady Loggers will also play on Saturday at Whitefish. Troy (1-4, 2-5) plays at Florence on Saturday.

Libby’s girls soccer (1-3, 3-4) team will play host to Columbia Falls on Saturday at 11 a.m. in a conference matchup. The Logger boys do not play this weekend because the Wildcats cancelled its program earlier this season.

The LHS cross country team is scheduled to run at Eureka on Saturday.
