No one was seriously injured last Thursday afternoon when a sport-utility vehicle rear-ended a passenger car on Highway 2 near the state shop south of Libby.

Libby Volunteer Ambulance transported the two drivers and a 17-month-old passenger to the hospital after the crash, which occurred about 1:55 p.m.

Varonika Welch, 19, of Libby had been stopped in her car waiting for northbound traffic to clear so she could turn left into a private driveway, according to Montana Highway Patrol, when 69-year-old Della Katon, also of Libby, struck Welch’s vehicle from behind. She was traveling at approximately 45-50 mph, according to highway patrol.

Welch’s passenger, Taylor Welch, was properly restrained in a car seat, the highway patrol reported. Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
