Awards/Honors: Elmer Simurdak

Elmer Simurdak, a 1960 Libby High School graduate, was honored this summer by the governor of Kentucky as recipient of the state’s 2010 Senior Volunteer Service Award.

Simurdak has spent six months a year for the past 12 years volunteering for the St. Vincent Mission, attracting and coordinating volunteer groups to repair homes belonging to low-income families. He has also spent three months per year in Honduras for the past six or seven years helping poor single mothers and children.
