The Libby High School girls soccer team couldn’t keep up with the conference’s top team on Tuesday with a 9-3 loss at Whitefish.

The Lady Bulldogs scored four goals over the first 30 minutes and five goals over the final 18 minutes to go to 7-0 in the conference, 10-1 overall.

Down 4-0 in the second half, Libby made a run at the opponent with three unanswered goals in just 11 minutes of clock time. Breanna Opland started things off with a goal in the 42nd minute. Eight minutes later, Jaime Gilden found the net on a setup from Ashley Shaw. And just three minutes after that, Shaw scored to cut the Whitefish lead to 4-3.

“We went back and made a couple of changes in the second half,” LHS coach Joel Lewinsohn said. “It shows what we can do.”

The Bulldogs eventually regained momentum and pulled away in the end. Whitefish had a 35-5 advantage in shots on goal. Whitefish’s Natalie Gayner scored three goals.

Jenny Johnson played in goal for the Lady Loggers and had 17 saves.

Libby drops to 1-6 in the Northern A, 3-8 overall and will host Polson on Saturday at 11 a.m., in the season finale.
