Trailing 24-20 in the fourth game of a Friday night match against Bonners Ferry, Libby called timeout to regain its composure.

“I remember Alex (Kulbeck) saying, ‘we’re fighters,’” LHS coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston recalled. “I said, ‘well, prove it.’”

The Lady Loggers responded with six straight points to win the game and match, 25-15, 22-25, 25-23, 26-24.

“Becky Boulware was key back at the line there,’ Ostrem-Johnston said. “She served points 22 through 26 for a huge comeback there. It was a team effort.”

Boulware was a force at the line with three aces and a 91.7-percent success rate. Teammate Chelsea Bowe served 100 percent and also had three aces. Overall, however, Libby struggled at the line.

“We missed 16 serves and served 83.5 percent,” Ostrem-Johnston said. “Luckily, they were missing some serves, too. That kind of helped us out. We also didn’t pass very well. But we kept our composure in close games and got the win.”

Kulbeck had a good evening at the net with seven kills, a .278 attack percentage and four solo blocks. Kim Tangen also had seven kills and a .211 attack percentage. Lauren Wepprecht had six kills and an exceptional .417 attack percentage.

Lexi Hageness finished with 18 set assists. Boulware had a pair of blocks and Wepprecht led in digs with 11. Alyssa Walker and Hageness each had eight digs.

The Lady Loggers had a rough time on Saturday at Whitefish with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-21 loss.

“It was ugly; we were a totally different team than Friday night,” Ostrem-Johnston said. “We didn’t show up to play, we didn’t execute.”

Whitefish’s only challenge from LHS came in the third game but the sweep materialized.

“They’re disciplined and they go after the ball,” Ostrem-Johnston said of the Bulldogs. “We definitely had a height advantage that we didn’t use at all.”

Kulbeck had a good match with 12 kills and a .524 attack percentage. She also had the team’s lone ace. Boulware served 90.9 percent. Hageness finished with 16 assists. Walker had 11 digs while Wepprecht finished with five.

As a team, Libby struggled at the line with a 78.8 serve percentage.

The Lady Loggers (1-3, 2-4) were scheduled to play at home Tuesday against Flathead. The team will host Ronan for homecoming on Saturday.
