The Libby High School drama team took

first place in its division during the Kalispell Invitational/David

M. Hashley Drama Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Libby compiled 75 points to win handily

over the nearest competitor. The Loggers dominated in the humorous

duo category with 34 of their team points coming there. Another 28

points were scored in the serious duo category.

“This is our second first ... we also

took first at Browning by a big margin,” LHS coach Shelley Fisher

said. “They’re coming along. We’ve got a couple of pieces I think

we’re going to drop and find something different.”

The LHS team of Mark Curtiss and Josh

Broderick took first place in humorous duo. In that same category,

Jason Schikora and Jolee Holder finished third and Jordan

Stephenson and Justin Lauer placed sixth.

“They’ve had a couple of firsts and a

second I believe,” Fisher said about Curtiss and Broderick.

“They’re doing ‘Harry Trotter’ – a take-off of ‘Harry Potter’ ...

it has a lot of intricate timing.”

Schikora and Holder were leading the

competition heading into the final round with their “Garbage Slam”

but ran into a couple of tough judges. Curtiss and Broderick drew

consistent scores throughout the tournament.

In the serious duo competition,

Stephenson and Lauer took second while Hailey Bowe and Paige

Bothman placed third.

The Loggers also had various

individuals place in the solo events. In serious solo, Jessica

Broderick placed fourth and Miranda Raab was fifth. In humorous

solo, Anthony Dewey ended up seventh. And in pantomime, newcomer

Hannah Payne placed third.

Flathead won the Class AA speech and

debate competition and Loyola took first in Class A-B-C speech and

debate.

Libby’s drama team will see action

again on Dec. 3-4 at Corvallis and Dec. 11 at Whitefish. In

January, the team will see more competition leading up to

divisionals on Jan. 22 in Libby.

Fisher invites any community members to

serve as judges at the home divisional meet. A judge’s workshop is

scheduled for the Tuesday before the event. For information or to

volunteer, call Fisher at LHS (293-8802).
