The Libby High School boys tennis team opened the season on Saturday with a 4-3 victory over Stevensville. The girls played to a 3-3 tie against the host school.

“It was a great start to the year,” LHS coach Kyle Hannah said. “All 25 kids that made the trip played a lot of tennis.”

For the boys, Cree Maloney took the only LHS victory in singles with a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over James Enzier. Libby swept the three doubles matches with victories by Alex Cislo and T.J. Benson, Nate Broden and Micah Germany, and Chris Faulkner and Ryan McCabe.

For the girls, Tana Wilson took a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles. Libby took two doubles matches with wins by Anna Valentine and Audra Poppen, and Raina Rowberry and Hailey Bowe.

“I was very proud as to how our girls competed,” Hannah said. “We took a very young team and they played extremely well. Our boys played hard.”

Libby is scheduled to take the court next on April 9 at home against Columbia Falls and Lakeland.
