Local officials are recognizing Flood Safety and Awareness Week with three events.

The lineup of special events got started on Tuesday with an “Ask the Experts Floodplain Panel” event at the Lincoln County Courthouse in Libby.

On Thursday at 1 p.m., at the courthouse, “Floodplain 101 for Realtors” will take place. Topics of discussion will include flood zone definitions, maps for MLS listings, floodplain insurance education and CRS program introduction.

“Rolling Rivers Trailer” will then follow on Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the courthouse parking lot. The event will feature an actual flood in the works and participants can see an interactive floodplain program, get wet and play in the sand and learn what a flood can do in a 50-, 100- and 500-year flood and what living in an “A Zone” or “X Zone” can do.
