Although the Troy High School girls basketball team remains winless this season, the Lady Trojans continue to show signs of breaking through.

Both Plains and Noxon had to come up with answers late to hold off the THS girls. Plains endured a lightning-quick offensive outburst by Troy in the fourth quarter for a 45-33 win on Friday night. The following evening, Noxon pulled away in the fourth to break open a close game and win, 36-28.

“We just need to put together a whole game,” Troy coach Neil Newton said following the Plains game. “We’re working hard for our shots and giving away too many easy shots. That catches up with you.”

Plains never trailed in its contest with the Trojans but things got pretty interesting in the fourth quarter. After holding leads of 9-4 after the first, 17-8 at halftime and 31-18 after the third, the Trotters appeared to be in cruise control. In the fourth quarter, Plains got its lead up to 40-23 with 4:36 left in the game.

Kimmy Klin got things going with a jumper with 3:09 left. Seconds later, Jordan Williams got the steal and basket to cut the Plains lead down to 40-37.

Troy (0-7, 0-14) followed with back-to-back 3-pointers by senior Allie Maestas.

“Allie shot the ball very well tonight,” Newton said. “She started shooting the ball.”

Maestas had four 3-pointers for the game and finished with 14 points.

Those last pair of 3’s brought the Lady Trojans back to within 40-33 and 2:05 still remained in the game. Troy had gone on a 10-0 run over a span that covered just 1:04 of clock time.

“For a short period, our team showed up,” Newton said. “We just need the team to show up the whole game.”

Plains got its act back to together the rest of the way and ended up with the 12-point victory.

On Saturday night at Noxon, the Lady Trojans trailed by just two points heading into the fourth quarter. But the Red Devils were able to finish strong to take an eight-point victory.

Maestas had another good night with nine points. Jackie Pepiot added eight and Williams finished with seven.
