Letter: Surveillance cameras downtown not needed
Dear Editor:
I was dismayed by the proposal to put government surveillance cameras in downtown Libby.
If this happens, we should all be afraid of the slippery slope this puts us on. What’s next? Where else should we put the citizens under surveillance? Should we also monitor the streetlights and highways? Where will this all end?
I do believe that this would be very negative for downtown Libby, and things are bad enough economically as it is. We do not need to have the government contribute to some potential customers not wanting to come downtown because they are under surveillance.
And how about bar patrons downtown? How will they like being on camera when they leave the bar?
Let’s hope this proposal goes away. This is still supposed to be the “land of liberty.”
