Coryell resigns from Troy City Council

The Troy City Council is in need of another member – and quick.

Mayor Don Banning announced Wednesday night that Larry Coryell had turned in a letter of resignation effective immediately.

“We had a work meeting last night (Tuesday) and he sat through it and turned it in at the end of the meeting,” Banning said.

The letter was straightforward with a simple announcement that he was resigning from his elected seat and all committee assignments. Coryell had two years remaining on his term.

Complicating matters is that Gary Rose, who was appointed to replace Banning earlier this month, will be out of town for six weeks beginning Feb. 1. As a result, the city council must have another member lined up or there will not be a quorum for meetings.

The city began advertising right away and Banning said e-mails were sent out on the vacancy on Wednesday.

Coryell was elected to the seat in the November 2007 general election – getting the most votes out of the four candidates. He took office in January 2008.
