School board to begin Asa Wood consultant interviews

The Libby School Board plans to kick of a series of special meetings on Thursday to interview prospective consultants to complete a needs assessment concerning the future of the district’s Asa Wood building.

Libby Elementary students in grades K-3 currently attend classes in the aging building. The assessment will take a look at cost-effective options – remodeling the current building, constructing a new elementary school or perhaps another alternative not yet on the table.

Last year the district put in for a $12 million federal appropriation to fund construction of a new elementary school and, instead, received $390,995 for its planning and preparation. School superintendent Kirby Maki put in another $12 million request this year and expects to know by February if it was granted.

Following is information on the interviews, which will be conducted by the Education Facilities Planning Services committee.

• Thursday, Jan. 14, 6 p.m. – Jackola Engineering, Architecture

• Friday, Jan. 15, 4 p.m. – Architects by Design/Integrus

• Monday, Jan. 18, 5 p.m. – G.D. Longwell Architects

• Wednesday, Jan. 20, 4 p.m. – JGA Architects Engineers Planners
