Letter: Responsibility needed to move Libby forward
Dear Editor:
It wasn’t long ago that different citizens of Libby asked to be elected as representatives for the City of Libby. Their assurances were that they would provide Libby with the leadership and competence to help solve the problems and move Libby forward.
An election was held. The good folks of Libby elected a city council to govern Libby. Some of these representatives have not even been sworn to their elected term of office and already behavioral shenanigans, public threats, public proclamations, etc., are leaving a putrid, chaotic stink.
Our form of governmental elections that will hopefully provide the best representation possible was provided to each of us by our powerful free speech amendment. The marvelous, genius gentlemen writers of our American Constitution provided each of us that power. Each constitutional member was all about responsibility … responsibility … responsibility.
That is what Libby needs now – responsible leaders that will put Libby’s best interest front and center.
Elected officials need to lead and agree to the civil discourse that will move Libby forward. Much can be accomplished when leaders speak civilly and act responsibly.
Not 1 cent, not 1 penny should go to legal tussles. That will make every Libby citizen a loser. Please, please settle the disputes. If there is any citizen who feels damaged, each can singly or collectively search out legal recourse against the perpetrator.
Each elected official needs to do his or her duty competently and responsibly. All other offices, office holders as well as those folks who work at City Hall need to be treated respectfully.
Let the New Year begin with civil discussions and responsible leadership. Give Libby a big win.
