Rose fills vacant seat on council

The New Year is marking big changes for Troy city government.
The new judge, police chief, mayor and two elected councilmembers took their oath of office on Monday.
A third councilmember, Gary Rose, was appointed at the same special meeting to fill the vacancy created when Don Banning became mayor. Rose was the only applicant.
A 1966 Troy High School graduate and retired miner, Rose said he looks forward to working on the council.
“The City of Troy needed some changes,” Rose said, “and I thought I might be able to help do that with the help of the other councilmembers.”
Rose said he will do what he can for the city, and he acknowledged that it takes a council working together to achieve anything.
Banning said he met Rose a year ago.
“He’s someone interested in doing service work for the citizens of Troy,” Banning said. “He’s lived here all his life – he’s a hometown boy.”
