Casino robber gets 10-year prison sentence

A man who robbed the Lucky Logger Casino in Libby last fall and led authorities on a high-speed chase to within miles of the Idaho border was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison.

Michael James Davis, 37, of Moyie Springs, Idaho, received a 20-year sentence, with 10 years suspended, for armed robbery and felony criminal endangerment for the Sept. 11 incident.

“I’m going to resist the temptation to give you more than what is agreed to in the plea agreement,” District Court Judge Michael Prezeau told Davis on Monday.

A parolee out of Lewis and Clark County with felony convictions of theft, forgery and drug distribution, Davis will also have to fulfill a prior suspended sentence in prison.

As part of the plea agreement, the prosecution agreed to withdraw its Notice of Persistent Felony Offender, a status that would tack on a minimum of five additional years to his prison sentence.

“You’ve made some terrible mistakes in your life and one more, you’re just about going to flush your life all the way down the toilet,” Prezeau warned. “A multi-time felon can’t go around waving guns in people’s faces… and going down the highway 100 mph, putting people’s lives in danger.”
