Kootenai National Forest motor-vehicle use maps are now available to the public, the agency announced last week.

The map shows open or designated trail and road systems in the forest. The new maps are available at no charge at all ranger districts and the supervisor’s office, and are posted on the forest’s website at: www.fs.fed.us/r1/kootenai .

The maps inform forest visitors where they can travel with wheeled motorized vehicles. Officials said that the motor-vehicle use map should be used in conjunction with other forest visitor or district maps, which will show both motorized and non-motorized roads and trails and other visitor information.

The existing district maps are $2 and the forest visitor maps are available for $9 at all forest offices.

The motor vehicle use maps for the Kootenai National Forest went into effect on Jan. 1. The Kootenai recently received the maps from the printer and they are now available for the spring and summer use season.
