John Brown of Troy placed third overall in the TAT Amateur Nationals held earlier this month in Las Vegas, Nev.

Brown, competing in the 189-and-Under Handicap competition, advanced to the finals after rolling a 702 handicap score in the qualifying rounds. With a re-rated average of 202, Brown then advanced as the first-place finisher in three straight elimination rounds before the big finale.

Brown ended up third behind Erik Glenn of Irmo, S.C., and Robbin Lewis of South Chicago Hills, Ill.

“Although in the last round I was aiming for first, it was very gratifying to finish third in a tournament with this quality of bowlers,” Brown said.

It was the first time he had competed in the tournament, which caters to amateur bowlers and offers prize money.

Brown will head back in the spotlight in late June when he heads to Reno, Nev., for a national tournament.
