Vigilante entertainment: Theatre troupe coming to Libby

The Vigilante Theatre Company returns to Libby on Saturday for a performance at the Memorial Center. This year’s performance, “Adventures on the Western Stage,” is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The Vigilante Theatre Company out of Bozeman creates original works written by award-winning Montana playwrights and performed by Montana actors.

“We strive to engage communities with performances about local history and current events and refer to familiar places and characters in our performances,” the theatre company says on its website. “This is how theatre leaps off dusty shelves and into the vibrancy of our immediate experiences.

“The Vigilante Theatre Company marries this experience with the time-honored event of a community gathering creating an inspired social event. This is imperative in our rural state which does not often receive the opportunity to experience live professional theatre.”

“Adventures on the Western Stage” is described as a fast-paced comedy set on the western vaudeville stage in the early days of the 20th century.

The brother-sister act of Winston and Vidalia Grumble find themselves in a heap of trouble one night when all the other acts on the bill suddenly turn up missing or, for various reasons, are unable to go on. Winston and Vidalia rely on their quick wits, instincts and years of stage experience to perform all the acts themselves. The Grumbles sing, they dance, tell jokes, juggle, do ventriloquism and even read minds as they go to heroic lengths to ensure that the show goes on.

Tickets for adults are $10 early, $15 at the door and for youth, $5 early and $8 at the door. Tickets are available at the Memorial Center’s various local outlets. Children 6 and under are free with a donation to the Libby Food Pantry.
