Edwards to lead final service

After four years, the Rev. Sherry

Edwards will lead her final service this coming Sunday at the First

Presbyterian Church in Libby.

Edwards will relocate with her husband,

Steve Edwards, who is working as director of a campground at

Flathead Lake.

“They’ve been a wonderful couple; they

brought a lot to the church,” said the church’s Jim Smart. “We were

very satisfied with her and hate to see her go.”

The church is in the beginning stages

of replacing her – a process that involves the formation of a

pastor nominating committee and search. The church, which is down

to approximately 10 or so active members, has experienced a

financial squeeze and can only support a part-time minister.

Smart said a pastor from Kalispell will

travel to Libby to lead services on Jan. 2. Bonnie Emett and Ed

Alsbury will also fill in.

The church’s beginnings in Libby date

back to 1897.

The church will host a coffee hour in

honor of Edwards beginning at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. The

public is welcome.
