Letter: Scary experience ends up positive
Dear Editor:
On Tuesday, Nov. 30, I had an
experience that both scared me and also made me a believer.
While driving home with my Christmas
tree in the back of my old blue Chevy, my tire just came off, going
60 mph on Highway 37 right next to the Kootenai River. I grinded to
a stop in the middle of the highway and was in total shock.
The car behind me was able to stop and
not slam into the back of me. And the truck coming in the other
direction had enough time to avoid me and my loose tire rolling
down the highway. As I mentioned I was in shock that this had just
happened and how close I was to going over the side into the
river.
The two vehicles stopped and took the
time to help me when I needed it most. I could not think clearly
and they were organized and diverted traffic while I called for a
tow truck. Not only did they help me there but stayed with me until
the tow truck came … and then gave me a ride home.
I do believe that living in a small
town where people are friendly and willing to help each other is
why I had a bad experience turn out to be a positive one. I only
moved here three years ago but I know that where I came from
before, I could be still sitting on that highway with no one
helping me, just passing by.
Thank you, God, for watching over me
that day and sending your angels to help. And a special thank you
to April Rainey with the U.S. Forest Service, Rick Nielson and
Alana Smith. You are very kind and considerate people.
