Special train plans safety stop in Libby

In an effort to promote railway safety, a special “All Aboard for Safety” train will make a three-hour stop in Libby on Thursday.

Montana Operation Lifesaver, Amtrak and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad are teaming up with hopes of preventing grade crossing collisions and trespass injuries and fatalities through tours of the special safety train.

The train arrives Thursday at noon and is scheduled to depart at 3 p.m., at the Amtrak Train Depot in Libby. Train tours and safety presentations are offered during the stop from about 1-2:30 p.m.

The Amtrak train will include the locomotive with five cars.

The tour originates in Washington state with other stops in Montana including Whitefish, Shelby, Great Falls, Laurel, Helena, Drummond, Missoula and Thompson Falls.
