Letter: Organ donation makes a difference

| April 8, 2010 12:00 AM

Dear Editor:

The power of one touched our family when our 21-year-old son, Trevor, became a tissue donor.

Just six months prior to losing his life in a car accident, Trevor had renewed his Montana driver’s license and had chosen to become a donor. We are glad that Trevor had made this most difficult decision for us.

In our search for anything positive in this devastating event, we have found some comfort in that Trevor’s donation has helped more than 22 people so far to have a better quality of life.

These people range from a 14-year-old girl to a 76-year-old woman. Trevor’s gifts have helped people from the Pacific Northwest all the way to the southeastern United States.

We know that Trevor became a donor to help others in the event of his death. We doubt that he knew how much this decision would help his family to move forward without him.

It is important that in addition to indicating you are a donor on your driver’s license, you should talk with your family and friends about your decision.

April is National Donate Life Month. Take five minutes today and register to become an organ, eye and tissue donor at www.donatelifetoday.com . Talk to your family and friends about your decision to donate and encourage them to do the same.

We each have the power to make a difference … one person at a time.
