Track teams warm up for season in Libby

Libby and Troy high school track athletes got their seasons started on Thursday with the Libby Time Trials.

A non-scoring meet, the event enabled athletes to get in times and marks in a competitive environment. Libby won 10 events and Troy won three events on an afternoon that included sunshine, light rain and even a little snow.

Libby’s Kody Berget and Chaucey Auge each won two events. Berget took first in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.15 seconds) and 300-meter intermediate hurdles (42.9 seconds). Auge shined in field events with first-place showings in the javelin (84 feet, 8 inches) and high jump (5 feet) – both personal bests.

Libby’s Dylan Berget took first in the 3200-meter run with a time under 12 minutes (11:59.45). On the girls’ side, Myka Forster broke the tape first in the 100-meter dash (14.41) and Chelsea Bowe sprinted to victory in the 200-meter dash (35.35).

The Loggers also won three team events – the girls 400 and 1600 relays, and the boys 1600 relay.

Troy’s Jacob Lopez, Cory Orr and Ashley Suber each won events. Lopez sprinted the oval in 57.29 seconds to win the 400-meter dash. Orr cleared 5-10 to take the high jump by 4 inches. And Suber went 14-5 1/4 to win the long jump by more than a foot.

Libby and Troy will both head to another time trials meet on Saturday at Columbia Falls.
