The Heritage Museum’s fourth annual Chili Cook-Off is on the horizon and entries are being accepted for the Oct. 3 event.

For an entry fee of $5, contestants can compete for cash prizes of $100 for first place and $50 for second place in each category. Gift certificates for dinner for two at The Venture Inn will be given for third-place prizes in each category.

The gates will open on that Saturday at 7:30 a.m. for those who need to start cooking early. Judging and sampling begins at noon. Categories will be “Chili with Meat, No Beans” and “Chili with Beans, With or Without Meat.”

All rules and details are listed on the entry form which can be picked up at the Libby, Troy and Eureka libraries, Libby Area Chamber of Commerce and AmeriGas, or can be found online at the museum’s website, www.libbyheritagemuseum.org .

On the day of the cook-off, visitors can purchase a sampling kit for $3. Each kit includes a cup, spoon and cornbread. Tasters can visit each chili cook for a sample and then vote for their favorite. A special “People’s Choice” award will be given after the public has had the opportunity to sample each variety and cast a vote.

All proceeds go to the Heritage Museum. Entries are due by Monday, Sept. 28.
