Libby’s Zach Watson shot a scorching round of 71 to take first place in last weekend’s Browning Invitational at East Glacier Golf Course.

Watson took the tournament title by four strokes over runner-up Reed Platke of Whitefish. As a team, the Loggers were third in the five-team tourney behind Whitefish and C.M. Russell.

Eric Grotjohn (94), Louis Cielak (97), Chris Campbell (100) and Andrew Smith (104) participated on the Logger varsity.

For the girls, Libby had a top 10 finisher in Taylor Barton, who shot a 105 for ninth place. Candace Hendrickson (112), Chelsea Oedewaldt (120) and Sara Kristiansson (147) also played to help the girls to a team score of 484 and second-place finish behind Whitefish.

Earlier in the week, Libby participated in the Ronan Invitiational at Mission Mountain Golf Course. Watson and Hendrickson were top 10 medalists for the Loggers. Watson shot a 76 to place fifth among the boys and Hendrickson had a 97 to place seventh among the girls.

In the team race, the Libby boys finished tied for eighth out of 12 teams at 371. The girls were sixth with a 480.

Placewinners and team scores were released from a season-opening tournament at East Glacier on Aug. 28. Watson shot an 86 to tie for fourth in that event.
