Letter: State wrong in Vogel case

| September 10, 2009 12:00 AM

Dear Editor:

This is a letter regarding Rick Vogel and his guilty plea of sexual assault that has been going on for years.

How dare the state drop five felony incest and five felony rape charges in exchange for his guilty plea!

I have never heard of such a thing. Either he is guilty of all of these terrible crimes of rape and incest or he is not! Sin is sin, and he must be punished!

Can anyone look these victims in the eye and say this man shouldn’t be sent to the state penitentiary for the rest of his life?

Each sexual assault charge holds a minimum of four years and a maximum of 100 years in prison. I vote to give him the maximum as soon as possible – 100 years in prison!

Can anyone believe this molestation has been going on for years in the home and other places and no one knew what he was doing? I don’t believe this story!

Look at all the poor children and adults he has hurt for the rest of their lives! It will always be with them in mind and heart. Some will never be the same.

I have no sympathy for the man and the terrible things he has done. I know there are others doing the same things and getting by with it because of our judges! What if it were their child? There would be no plea bargaining then!
