Walter L. Smith Jr.

Walter L. Smith, Jr., 76, died Sept. 3, 2009 at Libby Care Center.

He was born Dec. 7, 1932 at Eastport, Md., to Walter, Sr. and Lois (Bennett) Smith. He moved with his family to Washington, D.C. before he was a year old. He graduated from Eastern High School in D.C. in 1950. He moved to College Park, Md., when he was 18, and then to Salisbury, Md., after an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1951.

He married Lois Roye on June 20, 1964. They moved to Noxon in February 1964 and then to Libby in 1969.

His wife, Lois, preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 2007.

Survivors include children, Tracy Murphy and husband Kevin of Polson; David Smith and wife Roxanne of Seattle, Wash.; Kevin Smith and wife Ronda of Spokane, Wash.; Ellen Holzhauser and husband Bob of Libby; Tyler Smith and wife Jennifer of Boise, Idaho; and Payton Smith of Seattle, Wash.; sister, Lois Herman and husband Stanley of Davidsonville, Md.; and grandchildren, Staycia, Moriah, Logan, Kolby, Parker, Kaleb, Macey and Allyssa. 

Services were scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Libby Christian Church.

Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby handled arrangements.
