Volleyball: Mission, Eureka post wins over Lady Trojans

The Troy High School volleyball team opened District 7-B action last week with losses to Mission and Eureka.

On Thursday evening in the first-ever appearance of a varsity sports team in the new Troy Activity Center, the Lady Trojans came out strong but saw Mission come back to grab the victory. The Bulldogs won in four games, 20-25, 25-19, 25-12, 25-15.

On the stat sheet, Mission had a 38-22 advantage in kills led by Jonna Grant’s 10. Kristin Parks and Ashley Suber each had six kills for the Trojans. Parks came up with two of the team’s three blocks on the evening. Kimmy Klin had 14 digs, Alyssa Olds recorded 15 set assists and Jessica Lyons had seven ace serves.

Troy then headed up to powerful Eureka for another 7-B match and again won the first game only to see the opponent rally. Eureka won in four games, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-18.

Eureka’s Carly Hammond was tough to stop with 18 kills and 26 digs.

For the Lady Trojans, Parks finished with 13 kills and five blocks. Klin had 11 digs and two ace serves. Olds ended up with 19 set assists. As a team, Troy had a 10-5 advantage in blocks and had just seven fewer hits than the Lions.

Troy was scheduled to play at Bigfork on Tuesday before hosting Thompson Falls on Thursday.
