Boys Soccer: Libby blanks Stevensville
The Libby High School boys soccer team opened the season on a high note Saturday with a 4-0 shutout over Stevensville.
The two schools were locked in a scoreless tie until Cree Maloney broke through with a goal just before halftime in the 39th minute on an assist from Nick Reny.
“We were a little slow coming out that first half,” LHS coach Charlie Webster said. “Call it first-game jitters.”
In the second half, Reny scored in the 44th minute with an assist going to Dan Webster. Five minutes later, Crawford Dinning scored with Reny again involved with an assist. Libby’s fourth goal came in the 59th minute on an unassisted shot by Maloney. Reny was directly involved in three of the team’s four goals.
Lewis Brossman got the shutout in goal with four saves.
Libby dominated the statistics with an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Yellowjackets, which play in the Southern A, fell to 0-2.
The Loggers (1-0) will play host to Belgrade on Friday at 4 p.m. Libby then heads to Troy’s Roosevelt Park on Saturday for a noon meeting with Livingston.
