Letter: Openness, transparency needed on ballots

| October 8, 2009 12:00 AM

Dear Editor:

Soon voters will be receiving a ballot in the mail. There are those who do not want you to know their party affiliation and want a non-partisan ballot.

My question is, why don’t they want transparency? Frankly, the philosophical basis of the candidates is very important. I want to know “about” the candidates, not merely a name.

I will vote for a partisan ballot because I want openness and transparency. You can’t be a well-informed voter without it. Perhaps that’s what those individuals want. Transparency is necessary for honesty to flourish. I’m fed up with secretive maneuvering in politics.
