Letter: After-school program in Troy appreciated

Dear Editor:

I want to express my great appreciation for the Troy after-school program and the staff. There has been talk about it only being an extended babysitter and not worthy of its cause and I strongly disagree.

This program has helped my child to be more confident within herself and she is encouraged to do things that she normally wouldn’t have done if not for this program. She is forming relationships with others who have the same interests and goals in their lives.

She has been in this program for the second year. During her first year in the program, it was a learning experience for everyone and there were some rocky moments within the scheduling and such. The staff did the best they could with the resources and experience they had.

In my opinion it was a stepping stone in which we all have to start somewhere, and this year is much more organized. You can tell that their efforts are paying off while representing what this program has set out to accomplish.

I want to say a special thank-you to Ralph Stever for making this program happen.
