State Volleyball: Libby eliminated by rival Polson
The Libby High School volleyball team opened the Class A tournament in impressive fashion Thursday but then ran into roadblocks known as Billings Central and Polson.
The Lady Loggers got off to a good start with a 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 victory over Stevensville at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse in Bozeman. On Thursday night, Libby advanced in the winner's bracket to face Billings Central and lost in three games, 25-17, 25-16, 25-18.
On Friday morning rebounded from a tournament-opening loss to Anaconda with a loser's bracket victory over Hardin. That sent the Pirates into an elimination match against the Loggers. Polson came out on top in straight games, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17.
It was the fourth time the two schools met in the past seven days. Libby defeated Polson two out of three times at the divisional tournament to earn the No. 1 seed heading into state. In all, the Pirates defeated the Loggers in four of six regulation matches this season.
