Robert C. Prowse, 89, of Libby died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at Libby Care Center from natural causes.

He was born Nov. 6, 1919 in Rochester Kent, England. He grew up and attended school at St. Mary’s Chatham in England.

He served in the Great British Royal Navy from March 11, 1940 through Jan. 3, 1946. He entered the United States on Oct. 6, 1951 at Niagara Falls, N.Y., and became an American citizen on July 28, 1983.

He married Fran Beaver on Oct 7, 1984 in Reno, Nev. They came to Libby in 1978. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masons. He enjoyed woodworking, building, fixing things, ballroom dancing, singing and shooting.

His wife, Fran, and a son preceded him in death.

Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Carolyne Langley and husband Ron of Libby; Gerry St. Onge and husband Cal of Libby; and Rose Madore of California; a brother-in-law, Dan Story and wife Elizabeth of Kalispell; stepdaughter, Verna Merceron; and stepgrandsons, Joe Chapman and Tom Hammon.

Services will be Saturday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at Libby Christian Church.
