Local high school graduations this weekend

Troy and Libby high schools will be bidding farewell to their respective graduating classes this weekend.

Troy High School’s commencement begins Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Troy Activity Center. Libby High School’s ceremony begins Sunday at 1 p.m. at Ralph Tate Gymnasium.

The THS class of 2009 valedictorian is Aaron Palmer. The salutatorian is Johanna Folkerts. The Troy graduating class, which consists of 39 students, chose social studies teacher Tony Smith and math and science teacher Cliff Bara to speak at their ceremony.

The class’s motto is “Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, and only as much as I dream can I be” by Karen Ravn.

The LHS class of 2009 valedictorian is Mattie Casey. The salutatorian is Kammi McClain. The Libby graduating class, which consists of 112 students, chose social studies teacher and basketball coach Jim May to speak at their ceremony.

Their class motto is “Do not follow where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail” by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
