Ernestina P. Almeida, 67, died Saturday, May 16, 2009 from natural causes at her home in Libby.

She was born Nov. 11, 1941 in Mexico City, Mexico. She grew up and attended school in Mexico City. In the 1970s she came to the United States and had lived in Alaska and Montana. On April 28, 1998 she became a United States citizen.

She worked a number of jobs over the years including a hotel housekeeper and inspector for the clothing industry. She volunteered for the public schools. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafts, cooking, carpentry, landscaping and dancing.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rafael Palomar.

Survivors include her former husband, Endre Chio Almeida of Libby; mother, Catalina Hernandez of Mexico City; children, Lorena Wiley and husband Thomas of Hermiston, Ore.; Albert Almeida of Spokane, Wash.; Alexander Almeida and wife Mandi of Kennewick, Wash.; Daniel Almeida of Libby; Catalina Sloan and husband Phillip of Havre; eight grandchildren, Alexis, Madison, Talina, Ryan, Xavier, Dylan, Lucia, Genna,; a niece and many extended family members.

Services will be Saturday, May 23 at 5 p.m. at Mrs. Almeida’s residence, 113 Timberlane.

Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby handled arrangements.
