Libby High School senior Seth Wright signed a national letter of intent to join the University of Montana track and field program.

Wright had three top-three finishes in the jumps at last year’s Class A state meet. He placed second in the triple jump and third in the high jump and long jump.

Wright’s 2008 season bests were 6 feet, 7 inches in the high jump, 21-2 in the long jump and 43-7 1/4 in the triple jump. His season-best high jump ranked second in the state among all classes; his triple jump ranked fifth.

Wright, who was recruited to be a multi-event athlete, was the 2007 Class A champion in the triple jump at a distance of 43-8. He placed second in the 171-pound weight class at the 2009 Class A wrestling tournament after finishing fourth at 152 pounds in 2008.

“Seth’s strengths are all over the place,” Montana multi-events coach Adam Bork said. “He’s just a raw, natural athlete. He’s a really hard worker, and his wrestling success proves to me that he’s a really tough kid.”

Bork indicated that Wright has a lot of talent that can be developed.

“All his track marks from last year are solid across the board. He hasn’t had a lot of coaching in some of the multi-event areas, but he’s already one of the best high jumpers in the state and he throws the javelin over 170 feet,” Bork said.

Besides Wright, the Grizzlies also announced the signings of long-distance runner Quinton Decker of Port Townsend, Wash., and sprinter Bobbi Furrer of Missoula to increase the recruiting class to eight.
