Flathead plans power outage on March 16
Flathead Electric Cooperative’s Libby office announced that it has scheduled an outage on Monday, March 16, in the Crystal Lake, Upper Thompson Lake and Rainbow Lake area.
Roads affected include Lakeshore Drive, East Crystal Lake Road, Thompson Lake Road, Thompson Court, Rainbow Lake Loop Road, Lums Little Rainbow Lake Road and Rainbow Court.
The outage will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. and last about four hours. The reason for the outage is to remove large trees close to the primary line on East Crystal Lake Road.

Wolf biologist to present program in Libby
The Libby chapter of the Society of American Foresters invites the public to its meeting on Thursday, March 19, when Kent Laudon of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will present a program on wolves.
Laudon, wolf biologist, will tackle the subject of controversies and rumors that surround the wolf populations in Lincoln County, the history of the wolf’s local presence and background information on biology and behavior. Laudon will also go over wolf study results that have been conducted over the past several years in Flathead and Lincoln counties.
The meeting includes social hour and dinner from 5:30-6:45 p.m. with the program to start at 7 p.m. in the downstairs Fjord Room at the Venture Inn in Libby.
Insurance meeting slated for Libby Schools
A Libby Public Schools Insurance Committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 19, at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Administration Building board room.
The agenda includes a BlueCross/BlueShield update with Robin Swimley and Mountain West Benefits. Dinner will be provided by Western States Insurance. Those planning to attend should RSVP to Diane Rewerts at the middle school or by e-mailing: rewertsd@libby.k12.mt.us .
Bowhunter class signup on March 18
Registration for a bowhunter education class is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, from 5-8 p.m. at the Frontier Phone Co. office at 114 E. Fourth St., in Libby.
The course will begin the following week with classes on March 23-27 at the First National Bank meeting room from 6:30-9 p.m.
The course is free.

Book-signing set at bookstore
Carol Holoboff, who writes a monthly column for The Western News, will be on hand for a book-signing on Saturday, March 21, from 2-4 p.m. at Cabinet Books and Music in Libby.
Holoboff published her memoir, “The Bastard Tree” – promoted as a riveting read about a dysfunctional childhood and her search for a place in the normal world that led her to professional success as well as happiness.
While in Libby, Holoboff worked with the Montana Asbestos Screening and Surveillance Activity, and as a reporter for the News. She now lives in Great Falls where she continues to write for several magazines.
Cheap Date Movie on Saturday
The Libby Public Library will present the anime film, “Metropolis,” on Saturday, March 14 at noon, as part of its Cheap Date Movie program.
The film is rated PG-13 and is an anime adventure that provides a look at tension between humans and androids in a segmented industrial labyrinth.
Second annual Pi Day coming
The Libby Public Library will celebrate the much-vaunted math figure pi (3.14) with its second annual Pi Day on Saturday, March 14.
Pi Day includes serving of the much-vaunted dessert, pie, from 2-5 p.m., or as long as the librarian-made pastries last.
“Murderous Madam’ to perform
The Libby Public Library will present actress Kim Kaufman as Mary Gleim, the “Murderous Madam of Missoula” on Tuesday, March 31 at 6 p.m.
From red-light districts and a rival’s dynamited house to capitalism and a very famous tombstone with a stop at the Deer Lodge Territorial Prison, Gleim takes her audience on a tongue-in-cheeck 45-minute romp through history with Missoula’s most famous madam – from her birth in Ireland in 1845 to her death in Missoula in 1914.
Cancer support group meets in Libby on March 16
The Libby/Troy Cancer Support and Information Groups – sponsored free of charge by St. John’s Lutheran Hospital and co-facilitated by Linda Matthews and Laura Sedler – will meet on Monday, March 16 at 5 p.m., at the Families in Partnership offices, 83 Collins Ave.
Respiratory therapist Robert O’Rourke from St. John’s Sleep Center will be on hand to offer guidance on sleep disorders related to cancer therapy. Participants from both communities are urged to attend.

Book discussion group meets March 24
The Libby Public Library’s book discussion group plans to meet on Tuesday, March 24 at 6 p.m.
The informal group encourages members to share thoughts and insights about the book of the month. The March title is the nonfiction book, “The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America” by Erik Larson.
Copies of the book are available for 10-day checkout at the Libby library. Participation is free and open to all.
Public health seminar set for Montana AC
The public is invited to a free public health seminar by St. John’s Lutheran Hospital dietitian Nicole Kapan, “Vitamin D – The Sunshine Vitamin,” on Thursday, March 26 at the Montana Athletic Club in Libby.

Film series takes viewers inside Afghanistan
The Foreign and Independent Film Series at the Libby Public Library will present the 2007 documentary, “Taxi to the Dark Side” at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17.
The film won the 2008 Oscar for Best Documentary and investigates the torture and death of an innocent Afghani taxi driver through images from inside Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan, Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay prisons. Popcorn is provided.
