Libby won 13 first-place medals at the Valley Tournament in Superior in Little Guy wrestling action on Saturday.

The local squad had 26 wrestlers reach championship matches in the four age divisions. Eric Thrift (Middle 166), Zach Crace (Middle 90) and Owen Cook (Beginner 55) remained undefeated on the year in their divisions. Kody Bailey had an 8.9-second pin in the 124 pound Novice championship match.

The tournament did not compile team scores. Besides Libby and the host, others participating included Plains-Hot springs, Thompson Falls, Trout Creek and Noxon.

Other first-place finishers from Libby were Dillon Yeadon (Beginner 45), Tucker Schatz (Beginner 75), Johnny Davidson (Middle 80), Isaiah Sickler (Middle 85), Michael Miller (Middle 105), Josh Bowers (Middle 130), Mitch Haugen (Junior 119), Austin Bailey (Junior 145) and Gunner Moe (Junior 160).

Earlier in the week, Libby sent 25 team members to Thompson Falls on March 10 for a red/blue tournament. Coach Vic Crace estimated that Libby won around 80 percent of its matches.

“There were a lot of Blue and Gold wrestlers getting their hands raised in victory,” he said. “This was the last action for the peewees until freestyle starts in April.”

The following night, the middle-school team traveled to Evergreen in Missoula for a pair of duel matches. Libby defeated Columbia Falls, 58-26. Crace said athletes that had lost in a previous meeting this season against Columbia Falls came out on top last week. Evergreen had too much fire power in a 62-24 win over Libby.

Libby is now preparing for the Inter-Valley tournament this coming weekend in Thompson Falls.
