Bowhunter education class signup on March 18

Registration for a bowhunter education class is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, from 5-8 p.m. at the Frontier Phone Co. office at 114 E. Fourth St., in Libby.

The course will begin the following week with classes on March 23-27 at the First National Bank meeting room from 6:30-9 p.m.

Head Start in Libby, Troy now enrolling

Kootenai Valley Head Start in Libby and Troy is now enrolling for the 2009-10 school year.

Head Start serves children ages 3 and 4 (by Sept. 10) whose family income meets the established federal guidelines. Program options include part day, full day and home-based experiences. Transportation is provided to school from designated bus stops.

Diabetes self-care education programs continue

St. John’s Nutrition and Diabetes Support Services will be presenting two more classes in March.

“What to Eat? Carbohydrate Counting” will be Thursday, March 12 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. “Keeping a Healthy Heart” will be Wednesday, March 18 from 4-5:30 p.m.

Second annual Pi Day coming to Libby library

The Libby Public Library will celebrate the much-vaunted math figure pi (3.14) with its second annual Pi Day on Saturday, March 14.

Pi Day includes serving of the much-vaunted dessert, pie, from 2-5 p.m., or as long as the librarian-made pastries last.

Quit smoking through free community program

St. John’s Lutheran Hospital and the Center for Asbestos Related Disease have teamed up to provide a free smoking cessation program for the community.

The 90-minute class will provide information about a quitting plan, medications that might be helpful and cessation resources through the Montana Tobacco Quit Line, and other help. The next meeting is at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 16, in the conference room at St. John’s Lutheran Hospital in Libby.

Home Educators event coming to Kalispell

Kalispell will be hosting the 2009 Montana Home Educator’s State Convention on May 15-16 at The Christian Center.

Lorrie Flem from TEACH Magazine in Seattle and Mark Hamby from Lamplighter Publishing in Pennsylvania will be keynote speakers. Steve White, a founding member of the Montana Coalition of Home Educators and their legislative liaison will also speak on Saturday. There are 28 workshops to choose from as well as four general sessions.

Early registration fees must be postmarked by April 20; early birds will receive a free Mother Enrichment packet and an invitation to a special forum with Lorrie Flem on May 14.

Library’s Cheap Date Movie to present anime film

The Libby Public Library will present the anime film, “Metropolis,” on Saturday, March 14 at noon, as part of its Cheap Date Movie program. The film is rated PG-13 and is an anime adventure that provides a look at tension between humans and androids in a segmented industrial labyrinth.

Cancer support group meets in Libby on March 16

The Libby/Troy Cancer Support and Information Groups – a free service of St. John’s Lutheran Hospital and co-facilitated by Linda Matthews and Laura Sedler – will meet on Monday, March 16 at 5 p.m., at the Families in Partnership offices, 83 Collins Ave.

Respiratory therapist Robert O’Rourke from St. John’s Sleep Center will be on hand to offer guidance on sleep disorders related to cancer therapy. Participants from both communities are urged to attend. For a ride from Libby or Troy, or for more information, call Sedler at 293-0183.

Strength Team brings performance to Troy

The Troy Community Baptist Church is hosting four nights of entertainment with a visit from Mike Hagen’s Strength Team.

The group features world-class athletes that perform feats of strength. Performances in the Troy High School gymnasium begin at 7 p.m. March 26-29 and admission is free.

Flathead office closed on afternoon of March 12

Flathead Electric Cooperative’s Libby office announced that it will be closed from noon-5 p.m. on Thursday, March 12.

Office personnel will be attending a training session.

Seniors group plans event on March 19

Seniors With a Purpose, also known as SWAP, will meet at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, at Libby Christian Church.

A pot luck lunch will be served and attendees are asked to wear green. Entertainment will be provided and there is no charge. All senior citizens are welcome. For more information, call 293-9586.

Kootenai Valley Christian School plans registration

The Kootenai Valley Christian School in Libby announced its “Teddy Bear Picnic” registration dates for preschool, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten.

• Wednesday, March 18, 9-11 a.m. – 4-year-olds and pre-K.

• Thursday, March 19, 9-11 a.m. – 3-year-olds and preschoolers.

• Thursday, March 19, Noon-3:15 p.m. – Kindergarteners.
