The Libby American Legion baseball team remained perfect against Glacier this season with a doubleheader sweep over the Twins on Friday at Lee Gehring Field.

Dustin Morningstar hit a grand slam in the first game and Adam Stapley came up with a key two-RBI single in the nightcap in victories of 10-0 and 9-4.

“That was a really big hit for us by Stapley,” Loggers coach Kelly Morford said about Stapley’s hit in the bottom of the third. “That put us up. Two-out RBIs are big in that situation.”

Colt Cannon, who extended his hitting streak to a dozen games, reached on a double and Joe Coker followed by drawing a walk. After a popout and strikeout, Stapley came through to give Libby a 4-3 lead.

In the next inning, the Loggers added three more runs for even more of a cushion.

Cannon pitched Libby out of a tough situation in the fifth. Entering the game with the bases loaded and one out, Cannon got his team out of the jam with an infield popup and strikeout to keep the score, 7-3.

Chris Herbig’s RBI single and Cannon’s RBI double in the fifth sealed Glacier’s fate.

Herbig, Cannon and Stapley each had two hits for Libby. Zach Watson collected the win with a five-hit, five-strikeout performance in 4 1/3 innings of work.

In the first game, Morningstar’s grand slam came in the third with two outs to highlight a nine-run inning.

Libby’s Dustin Morningstar went 2-for-3. Eric Riddle was the winning pitcher with a complete-game four-hitter that included four strikeouts and no walks.

The Loggers are 4-0 vs. Glacier this season.

Earlier in the week, Libby split a pair of road games with the Kalispell Lakers. The Loggers won the first game, 8-1, behind a strong outing by Cannon. He fanned 13 and allowed just four hits and three walks. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a two-bagger to go along with a pair of doubles from Clay Smith. Coker added a triple.

Kalispell won the second game, 10-7. Coker had two hits, including a double. Derek Willis and Stapley also had doubles. Herbig took the loss at pitcher.

Libby (5-3 in conference, 17-17 overall) was scheduled to play Tuesday against Lethbridge AA. The team heads back to Glacier on Friday.
